Havana,
(RHC-ACN)-- Cuba’s permanent and historical
commitment to the struggle of the Puerto Rican
people prevails in the campaign of solidarity
that began on Friday and will run until
September 23rd all over the country.
During
a press conference, Basilio Gutierrez,
Vice-President of the Cuban Institute for
Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) highlighted
that a marathon has been scheduled for Sunday in
central Ciego de Avila province, which will be
followed by the placing of a wreath at the
monument to Puerto Rican poet and patriot
Francisco Gonzalo Marin (Pachin
Marin).
Visits
to the Puerto Rico Libre School and the Che
Guevara Memorial in Santa Clara city are also
among the activities programmed as part of the
national campaign, as well as a conference at
the Pedro Albizu Campos Faculty of Medicine and
a meeting with the diplomatic corps accredited
in Cuba.
Likewise,
there will be a Political Workshop on Puerto
Rico’s colonial reality, and a visit to the
Maria la Gorda beach and other places
related to the landing of Puerto Rican
patriot Juan Rius Rivera and his
meeting
with Cuban General Antonio Maceo in western
Pinar del Río province, during the days of
Cuba’s 19th century independence
wars.
On
the 23rd, the Cuban people will recall the
assassination of Puerto Rican leader
Filiberto Ojeda four years ago, and a wreath
will be laid by the allegorical plaque
located at Havana’s Jose Marti
Anti-imperialist Tribune.
Emma
Beatriz Rosado, Filiberto Ojeda´s widow, thanked
the Cuban people and government for their
solidarity with Puerto Rico.
Edwin
Gonzalez, representative of the Puerto Rican
Mission in Cuba, said that this campaign,
which has been carried out over the last 40
years, is one of the most important of its
kind in the world, and reiterated Puerto
Ricans sacred duty of continuing their struggle
until Puerto Rico gains complete
independence. |
